A recent survey asked financial advisers about their biggest challenge.
The number one answer? Getting clients.
It’s easy to assume the solution is more leads.
But that’s not always the real issue.
Often, what’s really holding us back is something deeper – our relationship with money.
The hidden block
When I reflect on my own journey – as a financial adviser and coach – I can see it clearly:
I had a money problem.
Not in my bank account.
In my mind.
Asking for fees felt awkward.
I’d second-guess whether someone could afford my services, or if they thought it was worth it.
I made up stories, and those stories got in the way.
After being coached – and coaching many others – I saw the pattern:
Most people carry some insecurity around money.
The illusion of money
People give money imaginary powers.
They believe it can make them happy. Or secure. Or stressed.
But here’s the truth:
Money is just a tool. An enabler. A neutral exchange of value.
That’s it.
The idea that money is like oxygen – that we’ll suffocate without enough – is pure illusion.
But if you believe that illusion, you’ll operate from fear.
And fear is not a fertile ground for growing a client-focused business.
What really grows a financial planning practice?
It’s not about chasing leads.
It’s about building genuine relationships that serve people.
And anything that gets in the way – especially your money mindset – will slow you down.
Many advisers have great conversations with potential clients… until it’s time to talk about fees.
Then something shifts. They tense up. The energy changes.
Clients notice this and they pull back.
What if you felt totally at ease around money?
What if you knew – deep down – you didn’t need anything from anyone?
What if you no longer allowed your thinking about money to shake your confidence?
That’s possible. And it starts with seeing what money isn’t.
The turning point
My breakthrough came when I saw two simple truths:
*All experience is created by thought.
*We all have unlimited capacity for fresh thinking.
My insecurities are made up. They are just thoughts.
They still pop up, but they don’t control me anymore.
This is what I help my clients see too.
And when they do, everything changes.
They feel more grounded. They show up with presence. They stop needing clients and start serving people instead.
From that place, business flows.
And you help your clients heal their relationship with money, too.
That’s how you grow a prosperous financial planning practice. It happens from the inside-out.
