Do you want to build a better, more profitable practice but finding progress is painfully slow?
You have probably heard of ‘The law of attraction’.
The idea gained huge popularity when the film and then the book, ‘The secret’ was released.
The law of attraction states that like attracts like and that you ‘attract’ what you think about most.
Sounds wonderful doesn’t it? Just think about what you want and you get it.
Do you really ‘attract’ clients?
I have had many financial professionals tell me that they want to ‘attract’ more clients.
But what does this mean?
Simply thinking about the kind of practice you want to build and it just starts happening?
I was in conversation with a financial planner who kept telling me that he wants one hundred clients each paying him £5k per annum. Yet week upon week has gone by and no progress is being made.
So, what is missing here?
The universe rewards action
I once did some training with Paul McKenna who is, among other things, one of the UK’s biggest selling non-fiction authors.
One of the things I learned about Paul was how quickly he took action on ideas.
For instance, Richard Bandler (Paul’s business partner at the time) said that he could go out to dinner with Paul and the conversation might drift onto an idea for a television show. At that very moment Paul would get out his phone, call a producer, and start pitching the show.
There was no ‘thinking about it’. He took immediate action. I am sure many of his ideas never came to anything. Yet Paul has a very prolific career and built a considerable fortune on the back of creating things.
The law of action
I know it seems obvious, but the law of action is about actually doing something.
And here is why this is so important.
We never know which of our actions will eventually produce results. If I look back, I am often surprised at the direction things took in my life. You may well find the same.
When you are willing to let go of control and relax into life you find that opportunity is constantly inviting you to engage with it.
Why do we avoid taking action?
I used to spend a lot of time thinking about doing something the right way or avoiding getting it wrong. This just resulted in me procrastinating.
Yet can you ever really know how something will turn out in advance?
It does not look that way to me and wouldn’t life be incredibly boring if everything were completely predictable?
So, to me the real secret is to be fully engaged in life. To feel good, follow that feeling and stop the habit of keep giving in to resistance.
